Home Business Website Traffic Options

This article is primarily for the new home business owner with website traffic generation on his agenda. That being said, it might just appeal to all since this is an ongoing task.

It has been a fascinating and fun step into the world of internet marketing. I built my home business offline and made the decision to market that brand on the internet when global expansion was announced. Traffic generation throughout the country and beyond would be required and I continue to find this industry utterly fascinating. Meeting people from all over the world and developing relationships has been more fun than work.

While learning new skills is essential, I have found that one can get caught up in learning but not applying. I am guilty of this task. There is just so much ‘out there’ to learn. The problem is that it is not an income producing activity. Many folks who come online need, or at least want, to make money sooner rather than later. There will be time for educating oneself as time progresses. In the beginning, a home business owner who endeavors to generate traffic to his website must take action.

Today, I listened to a podcast that discussed the value of having a plan and sticking to that plan, at least for the majority of your online working hours. Smaller amounts of time can be segmented for tasks such as acquiring new skills or evaluating new marketing methods. Focus is key if results are desired.

In addition, many home business owners who want to generate abundant traffic to their websites prefer a step-by-step marketing plan to follow. A day by day schedule with specific tasks and detailed information is appealing especially to new marketers who can be completely overwhelmed in this new world.

In the past I have seen internet marketing programs with daily task lists. However, what was lacking in most of those were specific details or recommendations of tools or services. There is absolutely a tremendous amount of options for these things and especially a new marketer has no idea of the quality or reputation. To randomly choose what will successfully generate traffic to a home business website can be disappointing at best.

A PLAN that includes step by step work to complete each day and includes recommended sites and services to work with, and the focus to consistently work that plan on a daily basis, can bring successful traffic generation to the home business owner sooner rather than later.

Hi Vicki,

Thanks for the post. I'm new online myself so yes, I have a plan which I can follow step-by-step, so I know just how useful that is in the beginning.

I fully agree with your point about learning vs. doing. It's something I've had to discipline myself to move from learning to implementing (which is a whole new ball game). I guess many people are in the same boat of reading, studying, learning but not making the move to doing - often due to a lack of confidence.

I also suffered from a terrible perfectionist syndrome whereby I'd not do something because I knew I wouldn't be able to do it well enough.

Now that's not an effective strategy!

In the end, I just had to give myself permission to not be very good but allow myself to be a learner/beginner.

As well as that, I do weekly evaluations of everything I've done, how well, what I learnt from that, what I think I should do better/do more of next week, and so on. I'm finding this a powerful tool to keep my focus and to keep on going.

Thanks again for the post and a really useful blog.

All the best,
Deb

Nice informative article!!!
Generating traffic through search engines such as Google, Yahoo etc is very difficult nowadays. Because the competition is very high, so the best way to generate traffic is by learning some proven online strategies and to implement it.
